My Journey with GCF – Sarah Govender

In December 2013, I saw an advertisement in the local paper for a Financial Assistant position at GCF. I sent through my application, but I did not hear back from them, so I assumed that my application was unsuccessful. Fast forward to June 2014. My current employer was closing down, so I went for an interview somewhere else, they offered me the job and I accepted the job offer. That same afternoon I received a call from GCF informing me the Financial Assistant post was vacant again, and they would like to invite me for a job interview. I had to turn them down as I had just accepted the new job offer on that day. The HR manager wished me well and ended our conversation with, “I hope you are happy with the decision you have made.” Those words remained with me and I kept thinking “I had accepted the other job offer as I needed a job”, but something told me to call GCF the next day and I went for the interview.

Now it’s 8 years later and I am still here, and I love being a part of the GCF Family. After a few weeks of being at GCF I asked, “why wasn’t I chosen in January for the interview, but only later on?” The response was that for some reason the application landed up in a box in her office with all the other applicants who were not selected and when the position came available again, she went back to that box to see if any previous applicants could be considered. We often joke and comment that “I am a product of the box …”. 😊

And that is also a testament to how God works in his own time/way.
