My Journey with GCF – Britt Deimert

My great interest and commitment to GCF started many years ago. In 2013, my husband and I were asked by friends if we would accompany them to GCF in Margate to do volunteer work as pensioners.

We left in November 2014. The 4-week stay made a big impression on us and I left a part of my heart there. Since then I have dreamed of returning to visit or work. So last spring, information came that a 30th anniversary was being prepared. I was immediately ready to participate when the date was nailed down.

Coming back to GCF’s centre after 8 years was like coming home again. The same warmth and love that I remembered from then were there now.

The festive days were characterized by speeches, beautiful table settings, good food, meetings between people, and an exchange of experiences and hope. It was the latter that emerged in many of the foster parents’ stories about their children.

Monica talked about GCF’s start and development in a webinar. During these days, we realised how Monica and Basil purposefully and successfully implemented their ideas about children’s rights. Everything is based on a Christian foundation and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. The GCF  team has anchored their ideas and training courses to high-level decision-makers, which means that the entire organisation is saturated with the thoughts and programs that GCF stands for.

Times have changed and so have needs. This is what GCF’s team has realized and prepared for. A good example is the new logo, which now also includes the whole of Africa.

I feel very grateful to have been able to experience these days. I will do my best to support the continued development of the team’s work for children’s rights to a family.

With love from your eternal supporter,

Britt Deimert
