Replication
Coming together, sharing together, working together, succeeding together.
Since 1994 the Place of Restoration Shelter developed into a model of excellence in Residential Care for Orphans and Vulnerable Children. However with the increasing number of vulnerable children who had to be placed in long term institutional care, it soon became apparent that new and innoovative solutions had to be found. Over the past 10 years Give a Child a Family has developed a program in order to assist more children. By converting the Residential Facility to an Interim Care Centre for children awaiting placement and simultneousy preparing Foster Families, an alternative to institutional care was found.
The model has come to the attention of many other organisations working with orphans and vulnerable children- both locally and in the rest of sub-Sahara Africa. The model is easy to replicate and offers an important solution for the estimated 54 million vulnerable children in Africa.
This is how we can assist you to implement the family-based care model:
- An initial assessment is done at your organisation to identify your needs and readiness to implement the model – this is usually done with your Board or Senior Management and includes the legalities such as NPO registration, SARS and Vat registration, Occupational Health and Safety requirements and registration with Governmental structures.
- Training is provided on the best practise model in Residential care for children who are awaiting placement – this includes childcare policies, assessment forms, health and education policies, facility security, confidentiality declarations and where required HR Policies.
- Training is provided for Social Workers and key employees in your organisation on -
- Recruitment
- Screening and assessment of prospective Foster Parents
- Foster Care under the Children’s Act
- Matching of children to families
- Disengagement of children from residential care
