A PROACTIVE AND UNIQUE PROGRAM TO ENSURE THAT ORPHANS AND VULNERABLE CHILDREN ARE CARED FOR IN SECURE FAMILIES

South Africa is faced with a crisis of more than 3 million orphaned and vulnerable children and the number in Sub-Sahara Africa is even more alarming – in excess of 46 million children have been identified as being highly vulnerable. Regrettably many orphaned and vulnerable children have been placed in institutions yet it is now internationally acknowledged that the "family" is and should be the first line of protection and safety for a child. It is within a family that a child is nurtured, learns about all facets of life and grows and develops to achieve their life aspirations.

Give a Child a Family

The mission of Give a Child a Family is to Rescue a child in need of care in a residential programme and Restore the child in a therapeutic programme while in care and in the community. To Reach communities with family preservation programmes, raise awareness and recruit foster parents to Reintegrate the child in the community with own family, foster family or alternative family-type care. To Replicate the philosophy of GCF through training.

The philosophy of the Give a Child a Family is based on four cornerstones

  • TEMPORARY SAFE CARE OF CHILDREN

The focus of the programs at The Place of Restoration Child and Youth Care Centre is providing children with holistic care whilst they are awaiting placement with a family.

  • PREPARATION OF SUITABLE FAMILIES

Whereas a safe and secure family is the birthright of every child – the family can also be the place where considerable damage and abuse can occur. For this reason families are carefully screened and assessed to ensure their suitability to care for a vulnerable child.
